We already knew that the sextet from Quebec took great pleasure in interbreeding. With this third album, he demonstrates all the rigor he brings to his art by integrating not only rap, rock, ska, metal or techno to traditional music, but by sometimes mixing more than one genre in a single piece. Undeniably daring, the musicians multiply the discoveries and technical prowess to achieve their ends. Fred Lebrasseur's drums are a real storm, Andrée Bilodeau's violins are of great precision, while the saxophones and flutes of the newcomer, Jocelyn Guilmette, allow you to brilliantly invest the territories of the world and the jazz. Québécois folklore, which originally wanted to be very simple, therefore acquires an impressive complexity with Les Batinses. Sometimes close to a dense, even scholarly "rock art", the songs of L'Autre Monde could frighten the lover of traditional music. However, over the course of plays, they let themselves be tamed and appear in all their richness, especially since the convoluted passages have nothing to do with demonstration and are always defused by humor. --Nicolas Houle
