Martin Deschamps / The Desert - CD (Used)
Author: Deschamps, Martin
Release Date: 06-05-2003
Details: Amazon.ca Martin Deschamps, the soft-hearted rocker, was not unanimous with Comme je suis, his first album marked by the hits "Casanova" and "Quand?". As much as the public had been charmed by this sincere but somewhat awkward rock, the critics had been harsh on the singer-guitarist. Things should work out with Le Désert, a second studio album that shows a good evolution. From the first Arabic notes of the title track, we feel that Martin Deschamps has freed himself from his monolithic style: tasty world beat, reggae ("Peace Reggae Love") or Latin ("San Dona") accents and even superb string arrangements (the very pretty "Vérité") come to color its square and biting rock. Deschamps can thank former Too Many Cooks guitarist Dan Georgesco, with whom he co-produced the album, for his impeccable work. Unfortunately, the lyrics are not always up to the care taken in the arrangements, and the rocker often takes the easy way out: songs like "Big Baboon" and "L'Espion rock'n'roll" will surely not go through. 'history. Still, Le Désert finally proves that Martin Deschamps can bring his very personal touch to Quebec rock. --Frederic Boudreault Product Description Deschamps, Martin
