Details: The Bougon family is a clan of happy little rascals completely on the fringes of society, sympathetic, who go to great lengths to scheme, to prepare all sorts of "clean" little tricks so as not to work and never conform. The Bougons are dropouts from the system who no longer believe in men; they are vultures who monopolize everything that society produces too much. They are dirty, vulgar, dishonest, grumpy, uneducated... but happy. The ardor and the resourcefulness that they put into screwing up this system which would screw them over if they weren't vigilant are beautiful to see. The general indifference of the population and the institutions is the loophole through which they slip to pick up the loot. Hounded by this justice invented by and for the privileged few whom it arranges, the Bougons multiply the lies, grease the right legs and remain united by their way of life. The Bougon family lives in a large 7 1/2 on the second floor of a duplex. Their accommodation is in an unimaginable mess. The Bougons are a kind of five-cent Corleone family. This family solidarity, sometimes put to the test, is the driving force behind each of their actions. For the rest, it's a life much closer to wild human nature: hunting, bartering, survival, but above all freedom. Basically, they do what some viewers say out of spite: “Why work when you can make more money doing nothing? In reality, however, their existence is a thousand times more complex than if they simply found an honest little job... The Rougons lunch on sarcasm, dine on derision and sup on cynicism. And their meals are never seasoned with scruples...
