Details: Product Description Les Denis Drolet Amazon.ca It's all in the name, and the moniker of Les Denis Drolet gives an indication of their penchant for the absurd. On their debut album, as on stage, the two eccentrics from Saint-Jérôme take pleasure in marrying the most incompatible ideas to create images that are as striking as they are outlandish. "Mes Amis," for example, imagines an encounter between 62 Sylvies speaking in slow motion and a San Francisco robot on a beach... in Dallas! One may find the playful "anti-humor" of these Guy A. Lepage protégés either futile or refreshing, but it must be admitted that they have a musical ear. And they know how to churn out some damn fine songs, whether they borrow from 60s pop styles (the Beatlesque "Fantastique"), country-trash ("The Rong Long Vong & The Fung Thing Long Song"), punk, easy listening, or variety. Comparable to psychedelic Cowboys Fringants or a pair of Raôul Duguays revisited and updated, Les Denis Drolet have nothing in common with those many comedians who simply "tried their hand" at music. -- Frédéric Murphy
