Details: Amazon.ca All four sing, and their collaboration is enchanting. Belgian bassist William Dunker, drummer Bourbon Gauthier, and guitarists Jeff Smallwood and Patrick Norman have come together to form the Fabuleux élégants. Their compositions have the authentic scent of true country music. The four friends are peerless melodists, inspired writers of polished ballads and effective blues with impeccable arrangements. It is rare to hear such cohesion within a group of artists who each have a solid solo career. The sum of the parts creates a very well-balanced whole where these strong-willed individuals give pride of place to the music they love. In fact, they produced this album together, with each contributing pieces. Their personalities aren't smoothed over; they exult. The Fabuleux élégants are having fun, letting the listener enjoy their vast and varied experience, in both French and English. Noteworthy: Smallwood's hilarious "Watch My Hair," Gauthier's catchy "Sans attaches," and the laughter that opens the album. A record to play at full blast while hitting the road heading south. --Diane Jean
