Details: Product Description Lemay, Lynda Amazon.ca Album A live album consisting, with one song exception, of new material, Les Lettres rouges follows in the same vein as Lynda Lemay's previous five releases, with its acoustic pieces celebrating words. Set to simple melodies and understated instrumentation where the acoustic guitar, piano, and violin take center stage, the singer-songwriter shares, often with humor, the ups and downs of her daily life. Over the course of these 17 songs, one is forced to note that she who is esteemed for the quality of her lyrics does not offer her best vintage here. Her anecdotes, which are only poetic in their rhymes ("J'veux pas de chiens", "Le 29 août au St-Denis"), her moralizing social portraits ("Gros Colons", "Les Deux Hommes"), and her redundant melodic lines are disappointing. Certainly, a few tracks like "Du coq à l'âme" or the naive "L'Enfant au cheveu gris" are more appealing, but on the whole, Les Lettres rouges is reserved for die-hard fans of the singer. -- Nicolas Houle
