Details: In the 19th century, a former convict named Jean Valjean, whose heart was filled with hatred, decided to serve the side of good after meeting an old madman who enlightened him on the parcel of humanity that existed deep in his heart. Having become a rich entrepreneur and mayor of a small town, he distributes his fortune to the poorest. No one can guess the former outlaw he was, not even Javert, an irascible policeman who knew Valjean during the prison days. But soon Valjean is forced to discover himself because a vagrant who is taken for him risks suffering a life sentence in his place. Javert tries to stop Valjean but he flees. He wants to keep the oath he made on the bed of a dying woman: to save the child that the poor woman abandoned to infamous innkeepers named Thénardier. Valjean snatches little Cosette from her sad fate and, taking on various identities, hides in Paris. Becoming a gardener in a convent, he entrusts the education of the one who has become his daughter to the nuns. The years pass, and the poor slut transforms into a luminous young woman. When the Mother Superior demands that Cosette become a nun, Valjean would rather leave her retirement than see Cosette deprived of her freedom. In reality, Valjean fears losing Cosette, whom he loves more than anything. But soon it is the attractions of the world that will delight him. Indeed, she meets a young student named Marius and falls in love with him. Valjean, enraged by this love, is seized with hatred. He arms himself with a pistol and goes in search of his rival. Paris is in the midst of a revolution and the fighting is raging. Valjean finds Marius on the barricades among the insurgents who are soon crushed by the king's troops. Valjean renounces his desire for revenge and inextremis saves Marius from certain death. As for Javert, he does not finally stop Valjean: the obvious redemption of the latter has sounded the death knell of the certainties of the policeman who commits suicide. Marius marries Cosette and pushes Valjean away fearing that the latter's absolute love for Cosette will offend him. Valjean is dying of despair. Marius learning from Thénardier that Valjean is the man who saved him from death on the barricades understands his terrible error. He confesses his fault to Cosette. The two young spouses rush to the bedside of the dying to collect his last breath. Valjean at the moment of dying finally knows happiness because he knows that Cosette will live happily with the generous Marius. And it is with the serenity of a sage that he enters the realm of eternity.
