Details: Amazon.ca In the summer of 2001, René-Richard Cyr adapted for the stage The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, the immortal film by Jacques Demy that revealed, in 1963, both Catherine Deneuve to the big screen and Michel Legrand to the world of composition. From this musical, starring young talents Évelyne Gélinas and Renaud Paradis, a refreshing soundtrack was born, recorded at Morin-Heights studio under the direction of pianist Benoît Sarrasin and cellist Jeanne de Chantal Marcil. In a style more intimate than that of the original soundtrack, the Quebec duo charms us with their delicate, shimmering notes, melancholic caresses, and complicit exchanges. Stripped down in this way, pieces such as "Les Adieux à Élise," "Sur le quai," or "La Lettre de Guy" can be listened to here with a delicious nonchalance, even if melancholy is never far away. Upright and touching. -- Claude Côté
