Montreal, October 1970. The family of 12-year-old Manon is about to break up: she and her little brother Mimi will be placed in foster care. Manon is revolted. Inspired by current political events, she hatches a plan and takes an old woman hostage to claim the right to choose her future. Helped by her cousins Martin and Denis, she leaves town with Mimi and the old lady, determined to find a refuge where they would finally all be free and happy. A film that is both sensitive, funny and hard, Mongol Kings is the lucid gaze of children on the adult world, its lies and its betrayals.
