4488 de l’Amour is a new energy—yet one that is not surprising—rawer and less rose-tinted, more burning and less restrained, more woman and less girl, but still as cheeky and uninhibited as ever, just like on the sœurs Boulay’s earlier songs. There is drums and electric guitar. It takes up space, but not as much as the vocal harmonies and acoustic strings, and not enough to make your ears curl.

4488 de l’Amour is an album that doesn’t take itself seriously, that constantly changes its clothes, and that fully embraces its madness and its bipolar nature, between melancholic folk songs and the bittersweet pop of these two girls who are sometimes funny, sometimes whiny, often in love with boys, and not too happy about it.

Delicate, flowery, exotic, but also more seething and self-assured, more spirited and dense than Le poids des confettis (2013), this album, once again embellished by Philippe B, is its logical successor. It talks about houses—the ones we have, the ones we are looking for, and the ones that no longer exist—but also about the people who live in them. It talks about distance, long trips, friendships, idealistic love, and disappointed love. It’s not more mature, but it is more honest. It’s not more serious, but it is more lucid. And it is like a little refuge that is very sweet to inhabit.
