Details: Amazon.ca The project Loop in Release, featuring collaborations with prestigious guests such as saxophonist Julien Loureau and flutist Magic Malik, will appeal to the erudite jazz aficionado as much as the novice due to its subtlety. Indeed, the term is fitting: a subtle blend of funk, soul, rap, bossa, and even Hindu-influenced ingredients, a subtle alternation of themes and improvisations, and a subtle incorporation of electronics in more than moderate proportions. The whole thing even seems so delicate that one almost wonders if the author's name isn't ironic. And then comes the "mutation," in 2 parts, which, on the 8th track, sends the rhythm racing at full speed and the instruments spiraling into a wild free-jazz session. In short, it grooves hard. And then the single "You Are The One," with the very characteristic voice of the "Master Fonk of the Parisian scene" Juan Rozoff, is truly irresistible (-ly funky...). A fine acquisition for Blue Note in this talented young composer, one to watch closely. --Luc Demont
