Details: Product Description Forestier, Louise Amazon.ca Revisiting one's own repertoire can be a perilous undertaking. Louise Forestier takes up the challenge with flying colors and avoids the trap of nostalgia in Lumières. Much more than a compilation, the album is a refreshing reinterpretation of the greatest hits from this singer-songwriter (and sometimes composer), one of the most important figures in Quebec music. As a bonus, it features three new compositions: “Merci,” “Lumières,” and “Ah les mots les mots!” Recorded with an impressive array of musicians (Jean-François Groulx, Dan Thouin, Normand Guilbault, Éloi Painchaud, among others), Lumières is a brilliant retrospective of Forestier’s 35-year career. While the first bars of “California” evoke the psychedelic vibes of 70s Quebec rock, the rest of the album brings us back to the 2000s, gently, in a resolutely contemporary journey. We can feel the path traveled by this free and whole artist, and the serene madness of a woman in full possession of her powers. --Pascale Millot
