Yes, we will be singing Malajube’s praises once again this year. Why? Because the band has just pushed the boundaries of their first album, Le Compte complet. Sometimes very aggressive, sometimes mellower, the quartet has added complexity to their arrangements and can easily swing from one extreme to the other; often within the same track, as on the remarkable "La monogamie." While maintaining a sound signature at the cutting edge of alternative rock trends, Malajube offers a sonic richness rarely encountered in our francophone bands. Without being truly accessible pop (Julien Mineau's voice is often lost under the decibels), Trompe-l’œil is likely to make history and propel Malajube throughout Europe. Sold, you say? No, stunned by such authenticity resulting from an absence of barriers. Whether rock, dreamy pop, metallic, folk, electro, psychedelic, or punk, this band gives of itself without reservation. – Olivier Robillard Laveaux (Voir.ca)
