The double disc Pelchat 2002 is however much more than a string of hits: if the dark singer revisits the key pieces of his repertoire, ("C'est la vie", "Quand on y believed"), these have been carefully re-recorded, the acoustic arrangements giving pride of place to her assured voice. Among the 26 gift songs that Pelchat offers us with sincerity, we find a few unreleased titles, "live" versions captured during the VII tour ("Crying in the rain", "Je n't'aime plus"), excerpts from the musicals in which he participated (Notre-Dame de Paris, The Ten Commandments). Pelchat also saw fit to cover classics of French song such as "Avec le temps", by Ferré, in duet with Éric Lapointe and "Ne me quitte pas", by Brel: the charm singer finds himself helpless and gives in an annoying escalation of emotions. "Reste", by Paul Piché, in duet with the Belgian Maurane, is on the other hand the most beautiful surprise of the lot, the voice of Pelchat abandoning itself this time without unnecessary overload. To top it off, one of the discs is a multimedia CD giving access to a retrospective of Mario Pelchat's career through photos, album descriptions and press articles.
