Details: Product Description Jean Leloup Amazon.ca The first album from Jean Leloup, the enfant terrible of zany Quebec rock, Menteur first surprises with the maturity of its lyrics and the originality of its music, entirely written by the young man. Though the production is perhaps too polished for the most brazen of Quebec singers, the album contains unusual textual landscapes. "Alger" paints a panorama of North African youth, "Laura" skillfully tells a story on two levels, and the hit "Printemps-Été" is an anthem to the delirium of the first days of fine weather. While Paul Marcoux's arrangements and the omnipresence of keyboards and programming effects do not do justice to the raw side of the songs on Menteur, or to their insolence, Leloup's gift of gab and unique sense of phrasing save the day. His personality, though a bit drowned out here, already hints at a bright future. -- Diane Jean
