Details: Product Description France. Amazon.ca How does Benjamin Biolay’s barely audible thread of a voice manage to be so intoxicating? The man who would make Étienne Daho sound like Pavarotti possesses an attractive force that comes from the heart and a rare melodic inventiveness. To the point where he cannot contain his creative fervor on a simple album. And so B.B. (sorry, these are his initials too) tells the story across 21 tracks of another B.B., Billy Bob, who is right, in the end. Listeners will listen to both CDs to the end to (perhaps) solve the mystery. This voice, this whisper, can be cruel ("Chambre 7"), determined ("Billy Bob a raison"), tender, or a disillusioned philosopher ("Les Insulaires"). Benjamin Biolay does not envision his songs as bursts of light or even little rays of sunshine. Which did not stop him from signing the most popular album by Henri Salvador in decades. The thing is that B.B., while remaining himself, blends into his characters, and when his double (the other B.B. if you’ve been following, the "hero" of Négatif) appears ("Holland Spring"), you still find similarities to his creator. The latter masters the entire chain that leads to this double CD, which is by turns withdrawn and intimate, or exuberant and open ("Bain de sang"). The varied use of classical instruments and electric guitar makes this an album with persistent charm. --José Ruiz
