Details: Amazon.ca No great piece of filmmaking--the camera angles are frequently odd and the audience is rarely acknowledged, among other flaws--Rust Never Sleeps is nonetheless one of the greatest concert movies ever made, based solely on Neil Young's remarkable performance. Recorded at San Francisco's Cow Palace one October night in 1978, it spotlights Young's versatility. The talented and magnetic performer switches easily between playing solo on acoustic guitar or piano on tracks like "Sugar Mountain" and "Comes a Time" and totally rocking out with Crazy Horse on "Cinnamon Girl" and the blustery closer "Like a Hurricane." What's most satisfying about this DVD is its sound quality. Though the concert was recorded nearly 25 years ago, the digital stereo mixes (including Surround Sound) are warm, full, and loud, just as they should be. Originally conceived as "a concert fantasy," the execution of that fantasy--an oversized stage peopled by small, robed creatures with glowing eyes (the "Road Eyes")-comes off as a bit daft. However, it mostly just acts as a distraction between set changes and rarely gets in the way of the enjoyment of this terrific concert. Despite its shortcomings, Rust Never Sleeps is an essential DVD purchase for the transcendent music alone. --Adem Tepedelen Product description IMPORT / NTSC - ALL REGIONS DVD (WILL PLAY ON ALL DVD PLAYERS WORLDWIDE)
