Nothing Short of

Details: Amazon.ca A pub-rock phenomenon that went mainstream, Lowest of the Low were that peculiar breed of band that could sell out halls in Toronto and Buffalo but still be stuck tiny playing clubs everywhere else in Canada. After two albums, the foursome fronted by songwriters Ron Hawkins and Steve Stanley split acrimoniously in 1994, but eventually reunited six years later. 2001's Nothing Short of a Bullet is a live documentation of that comeback tour captured, fittingly enough, in Toronto and Buffalo. It's a crisp live recording featuring the Low plowing resolutely through their high-octane power folk. The real surprise is that after years apart the quartet was able to get back together and play fan favorites "Eternal Fatalist" and "Salesmen, Cheats & Liars" exactly the same as in the old days. There are no surprises, and because of that, Nothing Short of a Bullet comes off as an odd greatest-hits package that will appeal to fans and really no one else. The extra disc featuring two underwhelming new songs and a cover of Bad Religion's Kerosene is hardly essential. --Matt Galloway Product Description Canada.
