Details: Amazon.ca By signing Nuit de noces, Émile Gaudreault, founding member of Le Groupe sanguine and screenwriter of Louis 19, gave us a delicious comedy about the greatness of love and the miseries of married life. Together for a year, Florence and Nicolas (Geneviève Brouillette and François Morency), winners despite themselves of a contest offering them an all-expenses-paid wedding, find themselves in Niagara Falls, with their respective families. But the bride and groom do not have the same conception of marriage and love... Admirer of Billy Wilder, Émile Gaudreault does not reach the master's mastery, but signs a comedy in the vein of When Harry Met Sally, full of twists, discoveries and dialogues that hit home. Apart from Pierrette Robitaille and Michel Courtemanche, still confined to grimaces, the cast is excellent. François Morency is perfect as a reluctant young first; Geneviève Brouillette wittily portrays a “post-feminist” dreaming of a white dress; Yves Jacques and Diane Lavallée are hilarious as a BCBG couple on the verge of divorce; and René-Richard Cyr and Bobby Beshro play a believable, funny and touching gay couple. More comic than romantic, Wedding Night proves that it is possible, in the country of the Boys, to make a comedy as fine as it is funny, without necessarily falling into farce. A successful first film for a filmmaker who will have to be followed. --Eric Fourlanty
