Details: Amazon.ca The Ownerz is Gang Starr's seventh album and proves that the duo who pioneered jazz-tinged hip-hop have still got it; in a time where old skool revival is massive, DJ Premier's minimalist scratch and break has come back into fashion. "Nice Girl, Wrong Place" grooves to a smooth, head-nodding wah loop and is an innocent ode to the laydeez featuring Outkast's Big Boi on vocals. In strong contrast to this is the collaboration with MOP on "Who Got Gunz", the modern day gangstas seem a lot rougher and tougher than one might expect from Gang Starr. The Ownerz is a solid hip-hop record which revels in its speaker-shaking majesty but Gang Starr seem to be unable to decide whether they are "gangsta" or simply lovable rogues and this leaves the album without a clear direction. --George Collins
