Details: Amazon.ca After a six-year absence, Francine Raymond returns in full force with an album that has a dark title but luminous content. Paradis perdu (Lost Paradise) seems here to refer to the singer's maturity, as she does not burden herself with illusions and continues her artistic path despite the obstacles. The author of "Y'a des mots" deepens her search for the perfect song by serving the listener a well-structured pop-rock, dominated by a vigorous voice. Michel Le François, in addition to playing guitar on the album, handles the arrangements and production. In terms of lyrics, while Raymond explores intimate subjects like romantic disappointment ("Paradis perdu"), she also proposes themes of a social nature: the song "Monsieur mon voisin," for example, skillfully recounts the downward spiral of an ordinary man. Without being extremely original, Francine Raymond's seventh opus proves to be the culmination of the hard work of a singer who perfects her art without sacrificing her soul. --Diane Jean
