This wind of optimism seems almost incongruous in this Montrealer of French origin, who had accustomed us to painful reflections. "Existence is simple if we accept it as it comes", he sings without emphasis. Filled with observations on the world ("The Logic of Things") and skilful descriptions of moods ("Arpenter"), Minière's stories unfold beautifully, without unnecessary artifice. The young man always gives in the minimalist song modulated by programming effects. The contribution of acoustic instruments makes this Petit Cosmonaute a more melodious alloy, a very convincing marriage of genres. This title joins the exciting catalog of the La Tribu label, which also counts Les Chiens, Fred Fortin and Urbain Desbois among its artists. We also note a kinship with the laconic prose of the latter, who plays guitars on the album. Jérôme Minière, without betraying himself, renews himself brilliantly. --Diane John
