Details: Product Description The first Vangelis collection to contain his work for BMG, Polydor, and Warner Music/Atlantic, all assembled on to one ethereal, 15-cut CD. Includes, of course, Chariots of Fire; So Long Ago, So Clear; Pulstar; Conquest of Paradise (from the movie "1492-Conquest of Paradise"); Himalayas, and more, with two unreleased tracks! Amazon.ca Since the early 1970s Vangelis has been one of the most successful composers of electronic albums and film scores. What is less well known is that Vangelis was once on the cusp of joining rock supergroup Yes (in between Rick Wakeman leaving and Patrick Moraz joining). It was this association which led to Yes's lead singer, Jon Anderson guesting on Vangelis' album Heaven and Hell, performing the song which became this collection's title track, the beautiful "So Long Ago, So Clear". The success of this release led, under the name Jon and Vangelis, to a series of popular albums and hit singles, and this extensive anthology assembles both the best of these works and some of Vangelis' finest solo material. The expected hits are present, with "I'll Find My Way Home" and "State of Independence" and well-known film themes from Chariots of Fire and 1492: Conquest of Paradise. There is also a new recording of the lovely "Hymn", the original of which appeared on Opera Sauvage and the collection Themes, and a previously unreleased piece, "Wild and Beautiful". Linking the selections are some short passages of new material, ensuring that the whole flows seamlessly together, making for a smooth, elegant and luxurious journey into some of the very best of synthesized music ever recorded. --Gary S.
