DJ Shadow / Private Press - CD (Used)
Author: DJ SHADOW
Release Date: 04-06-2002
Details: Product Description Universal. Amazon.ca Six years after the release of the sensational manifesto that represented the unequaled Endtroducing, Josh Davis, Californian better known as DJ Shadow, and musical collage genius, does it again with The Private Press. In the meantime, the man has participated in a few discs, one, disappointing ( Psyence Fiction) along with UNKLE, others, cults, like Brainfreeze with Cut Chemist or the Latyrx album released in 1997 (which remains one of the heights of hip-hop), as well as numerous projects by the duo Blackalicious, from which comes, alongside this opus, Blazing Arrow. Where many would have gladly been content to reuse the same recipes, DJ Shadow has thought of a different approach from top to bottom, both emotionally and musically. The result, less focused on funk, is paradoxically more influenced by new wave; however, the technique involved, this flawless science of looping, remains the same and makes you immediately recognize its "leg". Casually, without any fuss, Shadow imposes itself, like Afrika Bambaataa well before him, as one of the masters of cut-up and sampling. Endtroducing had marked the last decade of the late 20th century. Although highly anticipated, The Private Press opens discreetly, but durably because in depth, the premiere of the 21st century: we will never stop (re)talking about this record, very probably as a recurring influence. --Hervé Comte
