Details: Amazon.ca 38 years after Anna Karina declared to her Pierrot le Fou "What can I do? I don't know what to do!", Têtes Raides respond Qu'est-ce qu'on se fait chier!. Since Not dead but bien raides released in 1989, Christian (vocals), Cali (bassist capable of playing L'Amour parfait), Grégoire (sax, accordion...) and the others have been following a path more surrealist than neorealist. As heads of an extended family ranging from La Tordue to Casse-Pipe, Têtes Raides wander down paths beaten by the raw poetry of Jacques Brel and the absurd humor of Boby Lapointe. This time, accompanied by Antonin Artaud (yes, really), the Vacances Musicales Sans Frontières choir, Christine Ott and her ondes Martenot, Hakim Hamadouche and his mandola, or the faithful Yann Tiersen and his violin, they take a tangent. A punk "Carmagnole" with "Civili" and a Specials-style ska track "Go Away" are added to the usual java tunes and waltzes of this penny-ante brass band, guided by the cheeky banter of Christian, who blows his nose, introduces the backing vocalists, makes the children scream, and talks about the dangers of a ham-and-butter sandwich just as much as about love, death, or birdsong. --Sabrina Silamo
