Details: Amazon.ca In 1998, À la légère marked the beginning of Jane Birkin's musical adventure with Étienne Daho, Alain Souchon, and Miossec. Six years later, these faithful companions once again linger with the former "fan of the sixties," who arranges a Rendez-vous with them for a series of duets. Supervised by the gifted Gonzales and Renaud Letang—the duo who inspired Dani to say "It all depends on the context"—they banter over original compositions and unexpected covers, such as a dramatic version of "Pour un flirt avec toi" with Miossec or a tropical take on "La Grippe" (once contracted by Brigitte Fontaine and Jacques Higelin) with Étienne Daho. Other volunteers, such as Brian Molko of Placebo, Paolo Conte, Beth Gibbons of Portishead, and Caetano Veloso, also take on the task. Whether in English, Japanese, Brazilian, or Italian, it is in French that Mickey 3d scratches at Jane Birkin's tangy accent on "Je m'appelle Jane" and Françoise Hardy whispers "Surannée," written by the "mummy retriever" Benjamin Biolay. But the ultimate Rendez-vous is the one where Jane Birkin's crystalline voice gets lost in the dark electronic melody of Brian Ferry on "In Every Dream Home A Heartache." --Sabrina Silamo
