Details: “For years, the thoughts and reflections of Henry David Thoreau have accompanied me on my long walks in the forests and trails of Appalachia. It reminds me that we owe a huge respect to nature. Walden or Life in the Woods is a book that has nourished me and continues to do so in every stage of my life. For a long time I wanted to write songs around the universe of this man from Concord. His work is that of a man who wants to live deeply; At the same time writer, involved in the abolitionist movement, contemplative, great walker, philosopher of nature, precursor of ecology, visionary thinker at the origin of the concept of civil disobedience, he bequeaths us an immense work. Gandhi was inspired by it in his struggle for Indian independence and Martin Luther King was influenced by the concept of civil disobedience in his nonviolent fight for the civil rights of black Americans. It would be difficult to integrate all the characters who rubbed shoulders with Thoreau throughout his life. I am thinking of the philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson, Margaret Fuller, editor-in-chief of the Dial, William Channing, the transcendentalist poet, his brother John, the Indian friend Joseph Polis with whom Thoreau explored the Chesuncook and the Allegash. I retained John Brown, leader of the abolitionist movement, Lidian Emerson and finally William, personifying the escaped slave on the underground railroad. These songs are intended as a tribute to this philosopher, this rebel, this man of his word. A tribute to the inspiring work of a writer who was able to enlighten his century as much as ours. - Richard Seguin
