With Rêver mieux, he does more: he innovates without betraying himself, offering a great French chanson album that is in tune with its time, yet completely outside of trends. Musically, Bélanger, with extensive use of sampling, has become more complex, this time flirting outrageously with electronic music. Regarding the writing, on the contrary, this slightly eccentric dreamer refines more and more, touching on the essential in a few lines of poetry that he ruminates with an almost mesmerizing repetitive effect, whether in "Chante encore," "Te quitter," "Tu tombes," and, above all, "Dans un spoutnik" (Six billion/Six billion solitudes/Six billion is a lot/Of alone together). The whole forms an album that acts as an urban mantra, adding a stone to one of the most beautiful bodies of work in modern Francophone music. --Pascale Millot
