Details: Product Description A handyman in a 1940s Paris brothel tries to help the prostitute he loves with her singing career and romantic life. Directed by Patrice Leconte. ----- In 1950s Paris, three prostitutes recall the golden years of brothels. Above all, they tell each other the sad story of Petit Louis, this not very handsome handyman, secret lover of the lovely Marion. Amazon.ca Recognized for his daring castings, Patrice Leconte ( The bronzed ones, Ridiculous) explore again, after The Girl on the Bridge, the romantic vein and the theme of luck in Rue des Plaisirs, which stars model Laetitia Casta. P'tit Louis, the handyman of a post-war Paris brothel, is in love with one of the beauties, Marion. Like Quasimodo, he knows himself too little for her. So he decides to help her find happiness by pushing her to fall in love. But does Dimitri, the one she chooses, really suit her? A sort of retro Amélie, Rue des Plaisirs spins with a lot of poetry in red velvet, pink garters and low necklines. The original framing, the narrative tricks, the play of light and color – which romantic Caro and Jeunet would not have denied – are, moreover, the setting for a rather tragic drama. Unfortunately, Laetitia Casta, while pouting and expressionless, is not up to her partners, Patrick Timsit and Vincent Elbaz. However, one cannot help but share all the tenderness with which Leconte, thanks to his images and his musical choices, surrounds his characters. --Helen Faradji
