Details: Amazon.ca A selection of essential Quebec songs published between 1963 and 1978, Salut Québec takes us back to the era of "quebecitude" dyed-in-the-wool, song boxes, partisan and unifying poetry, when the chansonniers celebrated the great outdoors and our language. Witness these 16 immortals by Vigneault ("Everyone is unhappy"), Ferland ("I'm coming back to us"), Léveillée ("Frédéric"), Julien ("Le Rendez-vous"), Charlebois ("Lindberg "), Duguay ("La Bittt à Tibi") and others. This compilation could well have been called "J'ai souvenir encore", from the title of the very beautiful song by Claude Dubois that we find there. Folk outbursts also dot the album: "La Prison de Londres", interpreted by Louise Forestier, a cover of "V'là l'bon vent" by Les Séguin and "Au chant de l'alouette", by the Karricks, proceed of the same desire to appropriate the songs of the past in order to acquire strong roots. Too bad that this cake, produced in haste, does not provide any information to enlighten the listener, for example on the social context which saw the emergence of these songs. The evocative force of the works, which are regarded as classics, compensates for such an impression of sloppy work. If the case is banal, the jewels always sparkle... --Diane Jean Product Description Various artists
