Isabelle Boulay / Scènes D'amour - CD (Pre-owned)
Author: Boulay, Isabelle
Release Date: 01-06-2000
Details: Amazon.ca During the 1999 FrancoFolies de Montréal, Gaspé native Isabelle Boulay was given carte blanche for two shows, where she surrounded herself with singers she has long admired. The result of these evenings is captured on Scènes d'amour, which also includes a duet with Francis Cabrel recorded in Europe and a somewhat botched studio version of Richard Desjardins' "Quand j'aime une fois, j'aime pour toujours," featuring Gildor Roy. Above all, the performer takes the opportunity to revisit the classics that shaped her youth: among others, the sublime "Retour de Don Quichotte" with Michel Rivard, the moving "Naufrage" with Dan Bigras, and her goosebump-inducing interpretation of Jacques Brel's "Amsterdam." The album also features several tracks from her own repertoire. Among the highlights, let's note the electrifying presence of Éric Lapointe on "L'Héroïne de cette histoire," the beautiful chemistry between Boulay and France d'Amour on "Tombée de toi," and Laurence Jalbert's raspy voice on "J'ai mal à l'amour." Despite a few lackluster moments (notably "Les Yeux au ciel," "Couleur café," and "Tandem") and long-winded introductions, Scènes d'amour is a wonderful stylistic exercise. -- Frédéric Boudreault
