Details: Amazon.ca With 3 million albums sold, Placebo, a British trio led by the androgynous Brian Molko, tries to maintain its status as an icon of the 90s obtained thanks to the now classic "Without You I'm Nothing". Labeled glam spangled with electro (like their Suede colleagues), the combo, which has rediscovered its rock'n'roll faith thanks to the ardor of Queens Of The Stone Age, delivers a fourth album with energetic guitars. Recorded quickly (4 months) in London under the leadership of producer Jim Abbiss (Unkle, Dj Shadow, Björk, Massive Attack …), Brian Molko & Co therefore gains in efficiency. A few hectic surprises, an incisive instrumental "Bulletproof Cupid" packed in less than 3 minutes, a latent dub "Something Rotten" and a deluge of strings "This Picture" upset a well-established formula between Bowie-style tics (an inveterate fan) and "English Summer Rain" synthetic new wave gimmicks. Carried by the inimitable voice of Brian Molko, Placebo is no longer a trio of clumsy teenagers flirting with their bisexuality by covering T Rex, but a seasoned group mixing melodic power and a romantic approach with dexterity. --Sabrina Silamo
