Smile & Wave

Details: Amazon.ca There are four people in the Headstones, but for all intents and purposes, the hard rock quartet is Toronto actor-musician-recovering addict Hugh Dillon. The star of equally hard-living director Bruce McDonald's bogus rockumentary Hard Core Logo, Dillon epitomizes his foursome's full-throttle, no-frills bar rock. He snarls his way through every track on 1996's Smile & Wave, bringing an air of menace to short, intense tracks like the aptly named "Picture Frame of Rage" and "Pretty Little Death Song," and turning his backing band's decidedly average power chord stomp into something a little more refined. Yet despite quieting down slightly on songs like "And" and "Cubically Contained," Smile & Wave is a record with one setting--loud. When the only real changes in sound are an occasional stomp on the fuzz pedal, there's not much in the way of sonic diversity or Radiohead-style cerebral experimentations with rock structures, but those with a skull ring anywhere on their hands should approve. --Matt Galloway Product Description 1996 album for Canadian act who delivers Western-tinged, hard-edged rock. 13 tracks including 'Cubically Contained', 'Smile & Wave' & 'And'. Universal. 2003.
