Details: Amazon.ca Yelo Molo's spicy musical salsa, a joyful fusion of ska, jazz, pop, and rock, resurfaces with Snooze, a third album that is more complex and less homogeneous than their first ones. What a long way they've come since 1998, when the band from the Lanaudière region reached the finals of the L'Empire des futures stars competition! What sets the septet apart from the plethora of young bands invading Quebec is the original instrumentation of their compositions, which gives pride of place to the brass section. With the collaboration of two members of Groovy Aardvark, guitarist Martin Dupuis and bassist-singer Vincent Peake, the music on Snooze leans toward a heavier rock sound. While "Malaise" returns to the festive and easily recognizable ska that made the band successful, the title track seems to lead Yelo Molo down a more mature path, an extremely interesting progressive techno that testifies to an expanded sonic spectrum. Yelo Molo has managed to evolve without disowning its first loves. -- Diane Jean
