Details: Product Description Presque Rien Amazon.ca Contrary to what its title suggests, Presque rien has an enormous amount to offer: stylistic intelligence, an equivocal tone, and an urban vibe. Stefie Shock delivers a debut album with a deliberately European sound—pop without affectation, sophisticated without ostentation, and sexy without being cheap. Finely produced in London, the album reveals a startling musical mastery and modernity. Riddled with French idioms that occasionally bring a smile to your face, every track provokes and seduces, from "Frein social" to "Porno Star." You can clearly feel the influence of Gainsbourg—the *Love on the Beat* era—in the dark, narrative voice, the female backing vocals, and the precision-cut rhythms. Shock stands apart from his illustrious predecessor, however, by developing music that is far more than just a backdrop for the words. Less of a disillusioned poet and more radically dance-oriented, the composer excels in the art of rhyming in perfect synchronization with a hard-hitting groove. To paraphrase one of Shock’s songs, Presque rien is the best remedy for "fighting the blues." --Diane Jean
