Since his magnificent live album Capturé vivant, we had been eagerly awaiting Mr. Faulkner’s return to the studio. It is done, and we are now presented with a worthy and substantial successor to Caboose and Tessons d’auréole. There are a few parodies here (Cherchez l’idole, Karaoké), with our national curmudgeon poking fun more than ever at the pop nightmare he has complained about so much. But to this apt mockery are added chronicles and ballads that remind us what a major songwriter we are dealing with. Surrounded by a country-rock troupe that suits him as well as boots suit a cowboy, "Cassonade" proves to be at his peak, whether he is calling on the entire band or delivering his poetry in a more stripped-down fashion (Au bord du canal, Du gaz dans mon char). – Thierry Bissonnette (Voir.ca)
