Details: FRENCH AUDIO TRACK (Original French ONLY Version - No English Options) Read My Lips is a French film (2001) by Jacques Audiard. Carla, a secretary at a real estate development firm, leads a monotonous and solitary life; a solitude reinforced by her disability: nearly deaf, she requires a hearing aid set to the maximum volume to laboriously follow conversations. When her management suggests she hire an assistant, she posts an ad, like a message in a bottle, to which Paul, a young man recently released from prison, responds... A passionate love story, a pamphlet on the inhumanity of modern society, and an anxious, dark thriller, genres blend in this magnificent, deservedly multi-award-winning film, brilliantly directed by Jacques Audiard—the worthy son of his father—based on a screenplay as bewitching as it is touching, co-written by him and Tonino Benacquista. The actors carry this unique story with rare talent, led by Vincent Cassel and the astonishing Emmanuelle Devos, supported by excellent secondary roles, such as Olivier Gourmet (awarded at Cannes in 2002 for The Son), Olivia Bonamy, and others. One of the best French productions of 2001. --David Rault
