The text accompanying Tears of the Muse is penned by the performer himself: "(...) this recording proposes a topography of Elizabethan sensibility where pain and hope constitute the strange beacons of a path that leads to victory over death. Our modern era is perhaps not in tune with this refinement of expression: yet it is not so far removed from it, given its fragmented nature, and loneliness, love, and lost love still strike the painful chords." The performers are entirely in tune with this sweet, vaguely sensual, and very melancholic sadness. Taylor's voice is, one might say, more beautiful than ever, more filled with rare and rich harmonics. Les Voix Humaines, a wonderful viol duo formed by Margaret Little and Susie Napper, as well as lutenist Andreas Martin, also play several instrumental pieces.
