Details: Product Description Oliver Jones Amazon.ca Montreal pianist Oliver Jones, who announced his retirement in 2000, took the liberty of reconsidering his decision during a studio visit. Five pieces recorded with the complicity of bassist Skip Bey, including the excellent "Girl Talk" and "Lullaby of Birdland", had been sleeping on the shelves since 1986. So he was kind enough to reconnect with his colleague to complete, some 15 years later, the unfinished album that would become Then and Now. After all these years, the jazzmen display the same complicity: they inhabit with ease the revisited standards and show a dynamism which knows how to hold the attention. Bey's playing may have been slightly more jerky and Jones's less spirited, but given the quality of the material presented here, these details seem quite futile. Then and Now is pure candy indeed, especially for those who lamented the pianist's early retirement. --Nicolas Houle
