Details: Monsieur de Sainte Colombe was the greatest master of the viola da gamba. Fierce and somber, the man was full of inner turmoil, a kind of Jansenist. He would lock himself away for days and nights, alone with his instrument, in the small hut he had built at the bottom of his garden. Marin Marais was his pupil before becoming one of Louis XIV's most prestigious musicians. Sainte Colombe despised worldly success; Marin Marais loved to please and craved glory. The legendary meeting between these two opposing geniuses was of rare violence. But music is stronger than destiny. Original French version only.
