Details: Product Description Kanza, Lokua Amazon.ca After the reissue of Lokua Kanza's first two magnificent albums (at Universal: Lokua Kanza and Wapi Yo) and three years after the release of a disc with more timid success, Toyebi Té is the fourth opus of the Zairian artist. An album where we find all the sensitivity and finesse of Lokua Kanza: his inimitable touch. A real gem which, like the languages used (French, English, Limpala), aims to be transcontinental. But if the influences are multiple (jazz, rap, rumba, African rhythms) and the guests numerous (the strings of the Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra, the percussionists Greg Bondo and Komba Bellow, the guitarist Sylvain Luc), the music of Lokua Kanza is more than a fusion between the West and Africa. Throughout the 16 tracks of this disc, he created a personal, refined and sensitive universe by drawing the substantial marrow from all his influences gleaned throughout the world. Toyebi Té is an uncompromising album, never sinking into the ease of soulless music with electro sounds commonly exploited in world-fusion. A work of art, acoustic and hushed. And even when Lokua Kanza joins forces with Passi (on "I didn't choose"), he revisits rap which becomes personal, ethereal and poetic. Lokua is an alchemist musician: he transforms sounds into gold. --Thomas Boudrant
