Inspired by a British television series, Traffic deals with a subject often used in cinema, that of drugs. The film's originality comes from both form and content. Steven Soderbergh follows the journey of this illicit substance, from manufacturers to consumers. For this, he divides his narration into several intertwined parts, scenes that illustrate the involvement of many characters living on drugs or struggling against them. The realization adapts to the situations lived by the protagonists, which is worth many style effects (sound, filtered images) sticking perfectly to the action. Dismantling a cartel, traffic in all its forms, passing through the despair of consumers: Traffic manages to reach thanks to an astonishing cast. Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Benicio Del Toro, Dennis Quaid: all reinforce the impression of veracity of a very realistic scenario. In addition, Steven Soderbergh gets involved politically by illustrating, notably during a scene involving authentic members of the American Congress, the beneficial involvement of a government against a very lucrative traffic.
