Working is Too Hard: Anthology 1976-1999

Author: Richard, Zachary

Details: Amazon.ca If you discovered Zachary Richard through Cap enraged and left it at that, it's time to get up to date: in the anthology Working is too hard, you will discover that the Louisiana singer drinks from various influences, which range from country to blues via zydeco and folk. The anthology offers an overview of the 13 albums that Zachary Richard recorded during his 25-year career. It celebrates the singer's Acadian origins, his great musical culture and his love of the Francophonie. We follow him from his beginnings, when he took up traditional songs from the bayou, we hear with pleasure “The tree is in his leaves” with reggae sauce, and we discover compositions influenced by American standards or by Louisiana tunes. Clifton Chenier. In French as in English, Zachary Richard made a whole generation of Quebecers dance with his southern rhythms and his unique phrasing. This double album contains, among other gems, excerpts from a show given in Montreal in 1980, as well as certain pieces from the 1981 album Vent d'été, featuring guitarist emeritus Sonny Landreth. The committed song “No French, No More” brilliantly kicks off the 90s. This journey through time ends with the famous “Ballad of Jean Batailleur”. As a bonus, a detailed and complete booklet sheds light on the coherent journey of an artist who crosses the years with the constant concern to renew himself without betraying himself. --Diane John
