Author: Tribalistas
Details: Amazon.ca This album demonstrates how much simplicity can convey emotion. Sometimes in their most minimal expression, good songs contain the essential. Calm voices, which glide and soar on harmonies for two or three and, to hold them in the light air, a guitar, a piano, an accordion. Marisa Monte indulges in a subtle and delicate party, in the company of Carlinhos Brown and Arnaldo Antunes. Since the early 90s, the Brazilian singer has opted for a style that owes little to folklorism, while retaining the inimitable soul of Rio de Janeiro. And in songs like "Jà Sei Namorar", it's almost a pop song in Portuguese that she offers us. Stuffed with clever little samples, mischievous smiles, and animated by the spirit of the carnival, the album can prove to be highly seductive. With bossas sung by the limpid voice of the lady ("Pecado E lhe Deixar de Molho"), sunny caresses ("O Amor E Feio", "Là de Longe") and more restless moments ("Tribalistas"), the record brings its definition of the party, both intimate and exalted. --Jose Ruiz
