“The debut album by this Montreal duo (via Trois-Rivières) embodies everything that is wrong with Quebec song. The obsession for the beaudommagesque heritage and conviviality, the 'little life, the 'ti couple, the 'little emotions... But here it is: it's squealing good, Knitting machine . Where Mes Aïeux or the Cowboys Fringants make us want to move to Ontario, Catherine Leduc and Matthieu Beaumont impose the taste of winter, woolen sweaters, food from Jehanne Benoît and old “cheu” movies. From the shimmering, vaguely folkloric arrangements of L'ours to the killer keyboard line of Pas fait en chocolat , passing through the nervous piano of A monster under the bed , the ultra-light melodies of the duo-couple and the sensitive but never nunuche texts of Daniel Beaumont , machine knitting has a fresh and dynamic québécitude. In a different register, they spank like the Fortin/Méné/Langevin clan spanked 10 years ago. (...) Stuffed with classics in the making. (...) This machine is an important invention. (HERE Montreal)
