Details: Amazon.ca The Batinses put traditional Quebec music through the mill of the most varied genres: on Tripotages, they travel from progressive rock to jazz, passing through polka and other Eastern European music. What allows the sauce to take, on this second album imbued with maturity, is first of all the convivial character of the company. Versatile to the point of handling about four instruments each (and not the most commonly used: djembe, bouzouki, didgeridoo, etc.), the six young musicians invite the listener to join the dance. The instrumental pieces of their creation such as "Type Swedish!" or revamped standards like "Marry Boy" turn to the real party! The good old reels and songs to answer ("Terre en vigne", with sublime vocal arrangements) nevertheless remain at the heart of the party. If the formation of Quebec is thus based on a tradition several hundred years old, its Tripotages are situated somewhere between the urban macadam and the intoxication of Emir Kusturica's films… An exotic journey from home. -- Frederic Murphy
