Details: Product Description Malajube Amazon.ca A happy surprise in 2004, Malajube's first album, Le compte complet, stunned critics and rock fans alike. This is certainly one of the best bands on the current Montreal scene. Energy, originality, depth, and passion inhabit this second record in the form of Trompe-l’œil. Trompe-l’œil like the superb cover art, which looks like a flower-lung-butterfly; trompe-l’œil like the lyrics, which, beneath a somewhat obscure, eccentric, or daring exterior, all hide a story of… illness. Yes, Malajube’s intense lead singer, Julien Mineau, readily admits to being a hypochondriac. To breathe freshness and vitality into this universe that could have proven stifling, the four trendy boys cooked up an ultra-energetic sound in their corner, with instrumentation and vocal harmonies that have become more sophisticated compared to the previous record. All this without the help of any multinational corporation, as the band chose to remain loyal to the small independent company Dare to Care Records. To concoct this unclassifiable album, the group enlisted the help of Valérie Jodoin-Keaton, keyboardist for The Dears, as well as Pierre Lapointe and Loco Locass. Nothing less. The result is a strange musical object that will be talked about for a long time to come. --Pascale Millot
