Photography for the real world took place at locations around Los Angeles, and at the US government's futuristic Lawrence Livermore Laboratory outside Oakland, California. a transcontinental computer hookup to speed up delivery of its work to Disney Studios in Burbank. The link allowed filmmakers to cut the amount of time it took to create each scene by two and a half to five days.
