Details: Amazon.ca This fourth album could well firmly establish Mickey 3D on the French music scene. Whether rock chanson or melodic rock capable of rough swerves ("La Peur" even has hints of Noir Désir), the trio is part of this evolution in French chanson, increasingly fueled by electricity. The boys in Mickey 3D know the importance of silences and of word choice. They also have an instinct for the exact tone, blending overwhelmed expressions with those of the slightly cynical detachment dictated by the times, as a way to protect themselves ("Amen"). Their talent as composers (confirmed by the success of "J'ai demandé à la lune," written for Indochine) finds full expression in this album, combining the poppiest of melodies (the Kinks-like backing vocals in "La Vallée") with the simplicity of traditional music ("Yalil," "La Fin des haricots"). Dominated by guitars, the songs flow from the same rich source, which fuels verses full of sensitivity and innocence ("Demain finira bien" sounds like an electro nursery rhyme). Peppered with little humanist messages and ironic questions, "Tu vas pas mourir de rire" signals its disenchanted intentions from the very title. Yet it brings great happiness, and a lot of fresh air!. --José Ruiz
