Details: Product Description Canada. Amazon.ca After three convincing albums marked by his love for country music, Gildor Roy sheds his Stetson hat to dip his toes in the sand. An unpretentious record that favors Latin music ("Le Touriste", "Volando"), Vacaciones seems, at first glance, as far as can be from the world of singing cowboys. However, the singer's early musical loves are soon infiltrating these warm rhythms, sometimes in a fully embraced way ("Salut ma sirène"), and sometimes behind a few Latin accents ("C'est dommage", "Même si"). Gildor Roy distinguishes himself not so much through the range of his voice, which is rather limited, but through the obvious pleasure he takes in singing this collection of likeable tracks. Visibly at ease with this music, which he mastered during stays in the Dominican Republic, the singer-actor does not take himself seriously at all and enjoys spicing up his compositions with humor, alternating between love songs and anecdotal tales. Vacaciones will likely not go down in history for the high quality of its content, but the production as well as the orchestration, with its rich brass section, are nonetheless successful. Apart from a superfluous cover of "Guantanamera", boredom never sets in, especially since Gildor Roy shines throughout the record with his warm presence. --Nicolas Houle
